Road Trip 2026

Travel Like a Local Camp with Friends

For Solo Travelers Who Don’t Do Tours

You’re used to traveling on your own. The freedom and spontaneity of it. But Iceland isn’t like popular backpacking spots, it can be hard to meet people, It’s more expensive, and doesn’t always have that social, hostel-style vibe.

That’s why we created this tour.

It’s made for solo travelers aged between 20 - 40 years who could do Iceland alone but would rather share the experience with like-minded people. No big buses, no rigid schedules. Just a small group, 8 people, camping under the midnight sun, cooking together, swapping stories, and exploring the real Iceland with locals who know the way.

We’ll take you to our favorite campsites, mix popular sights with secret gems, and keep things flexible, fun, and budget-friendly. It’s not a tour. It’s a road trip with friends, and you're invited!

The itinerary

Day 1: Arrivals & Welcome Vibes

  • Arrive in Keflavík Airport and make your own way to Reykjavík. We recommend taking the FlyBus or a Taxi.

  • You book your own accommodation for the night. We highly recommend staying at Dalur Hostel, a relaxed, affordable spot just a 5-minute walk from Jóhanna’s place (she’s a part of the crew).

  • Welcome dinner and bonding at Jóhanna’s place. This will be a great chance to meet everyone, go over the plan and eat some pizza while we’re at it!

Day 2: We start our epic roadtrip!

  • Depart Reykjavík (2 hour drive to ferry port) and hop on a 45 min ferry ride to the Westman Islands

  • Arrival and set up camp with picnic lunch before we begin exploring the island! We drive to Stórhöfði for puffin viewing and hike along the coast and see the famous Elephant rock.

  • Afternoon leisure time where you can explore on your own. Options are hiking up Eldfell volcano, visit Eldheimar volcano museum, swimming pool and explore around town.

  • In the evening we have dinner together and an evening hike up one of the lush green cliffs on the island, overlooking the town and the ocean on the other side.

Day 3: South Coast Adventure

  • We catch the ferry back to the mainland with our first stop being Seljalandsfoss. Close to it is a magical canyon with a hidden waterfall called Nauthúsagil. For this one you need good shoes since your feet might get wet!

  • We visit Skógafoss and Dyrhólaey (view of black sand beach)

  • We’ll have a stop at Vík to fill our food storage before driving up into the green tuff mountains to our favorite campsite in Iceland, Þakgil

  • The campsite is surrounded by mountains and various hiking paths, there’s even a natural cave with grills and seats where we will cook our dinner for the night!

Day 4 Hiking and travelling east

  • In the morning we will hike for about 2 hours in the magical area of Þakgil before departing back to the main road to drive further east.

  • We visit Kirkjubæjarklaustur town where we stack up on groceries.

  • We reach Skaftafell national park after about 2 hours and 30 minutes of driving

  • At the national park we set up camp, cook dinner and aim for a short hike up to Svartifoss waterfall in the evening

Day 5: Icebergs and back to Reykjavík

  • We drive 45 min further east to the Glacier lagoon and Diamond beach. A huge lagoon created by a descending glacier where icebergs melt and reach the black sand beach

  • A 5 hour drive back to Reykjavík with both comfort stops and nature stops along the way

  • Check into your accommodation in Reykjavík that you’ve book on your own

Day 6: Glymur hike and Hvammsvík baths!

  • Today we hike to Glymur, the second tallest waterfall in Iceland reaching 198 meters.

  • To reach it we drive 45 minutes out of the capital. The hike itself is alongside the canyon the waterfall falls into and takes around 4-5 hours.

  • Afterwards we soak up in the Hvammsvík baths by the ocean, a quiet alternative to the Blue Lagoon.

  • In the evening we have our final dinner together and check out Reykjavík’s nightlife!

Day 7: Everyone goes their separate ways

  • Day 7 is a travel day where you go home or maybe you have added extra days to explore on your own.

  • We recommend the Flybus to reach Keflavík International Airport which is 45 minutes away from Reykjavík

  • If you are staying longer, we are more than happy to help you with your onward journey in Iceland!

* Sometimes the weather in Iceland can be a bit tough. And while most of the time it is fine and you will still be able to enjoy what the country has to offer, sometimes it can affect your plans. We are going camping so we have to be flexible in terms of the weather. We know the country like the back of our hand and will have stunning alternatives of places to go if weather is affecting our original plan of travelling on the South Coast. We ask you to keep in mind that it will be much more enjoyable camping and exploring in better weather elsewhere in the country if the South Coast is soaking wet! But we of course hope for the best!

Prices and Important Info

This trip will be one of a kind, including sights the major companies don’t visit like the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar), Glymur, Nauthúsagil and Þakgil. This is also a rarely seen price in Iceland for a trip that feels more like a road trip with friends rather than a big organized tour on a bus + visiting sights off the beaten path! For only 169.000 ISK, you’ll travel like we do, and see the country like we do. We are so excited for you to join us!

What’s Included

  • Jóhanna as a guide

  • 9 seater vehicle and all car costs

  • Camping gear, tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, cooler

  • Cutleries, sauces etc. for cooking at the campsites

  • Entrance to Hvammsvík baths

  • Ferry tickets to Vestmannaeyjar

What’s not Included*

  • Flights to and from Iceland

  • Airport transfers (Flybus the cheapest option)

  • Accommodation in Reykjavík

  • Food and drinks

  • Campsite fees (Approx. 2.500 ISK per person a night)

  • Entry to additional activities

*Since we’re a young company, accommodation isn’t included in our packages just yet. The good news is, this gives you the flexibility to choose the stay that matches your taste and budget. For a great option, we recommend Dalur Hostel. You can expect to pay between 25.000-30.000 ISK in accommodation for this trip, in total. That’s 3 nights at a hostel and 3 nights camping. Booking the hostel in Reykjavík sooner than later will ensure this very fair price but we can’t guarantee it will stay this low closer to the trip.

Camping in Iceland, what’s that like?

Camping is extremely popular among Icelandic people. It won’t be the luxury of a hotel bed but it is the most authentic way of travelling in Iceland.

We will provide you with:

  • Tents, insulated mattresses, warm sleeping bags

What you need to bring to stay warm during the night:

  • Wool or bamboo leggings and long sleeve shirt, hat, mitten, socks and a warm sweater. Layering up is best, and if it gets too warm you just take off layers. We will provide you with a packing list.

Temperatures range from 5-10° C during the night. With the things listed above, you will be fine and hopefully sleep like a baby!

Fitness level

This trip includes daily hikes of 2–5 hours. You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be reasonably fit and comfortable walking on trails for a few hours at a time.

“Travelling solo in Asia introduced me to incredible backpackers and unforgettable adventures. It made me wish Iceland had something similar, a way to explore authentically while meeting amazing, like-minded people. That’s why we are so excited for this road trip and to share our country with you.”
